Megan Thee Stallion Is Bringing Us Good News on Friday

The release of the Houston rapper’s debut studio album is the cherry on top of her stratospheric year.

GOOD NEWS, HOTTIES. NO, SERIOUSLY. We’ve got good news. Empowering Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s debut studio album, Good News, will be out November 20.

The “Savage” artist initially teased the announcement with multiple images of positive newspaper headlines about her on Instagram, “good news” adorning each visual. Megan then unveiled the upcoming project with an astounding album cover, which showcases her in a glass box surrounded by the same headlines.

“Hotties, I first want to say thank you for riding with me, growing with me, and staying down with me since my first mixtape Rich Ratchet!” Stallion wrote on Instagram. “Through this rough ass year we’ve all been having, I felt like we could all use a lil bit of good news.”

Megan continued the celebration with even more new-themed images, including a likely homage to her Texas home state featuring the Houston native (born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete and raised right here in South Park and then Pearland) in a skintight, newspaper-print catsuit and matching cowboy hat. She even integrated a magazine cover in the album’s rollout, the visually pleasing shot a brilliant ode to her 2018 Tina Snow EP cover.

We couldn’t agree more.

She’s zipped through the ranks at light-speed since signing to become Houston-based independent label 1501 Certified Entertainment’s first female rap artist two years ago. Although this year has not been an entirely easy one for her (there were clashes with her label as she attempted to renegotiate her contract in the spring, and then she underwent surgery for gunshot wounds after an incident involving fellow rap artist Tony Lanez in July.) Musically, however, 2020 has been a big year for the rap sensation. From strengthening her catalogue with her Suga EP in March, to performing a headline-grabbing on Saturday Night Live, and dropping chart-topping collaborations, including “WAP” with Cardi B and the “Savage Remix,” with fellow H-Town music queen Beyoncé, Megan shows no sign of slowing down. 

And she’s not. Just yesterday, GQ unveiled Houston Hottie as its 2020 Rapper of the Year.

In Megan’s exuberant and magnetic rise to stardom, we’ve seen her transform into “Hot Girl Meg”—an inspirational powerhouse who intertwines her unapologetically carefree personality with jaw dropping, fiery verses. Not to mention the occasional, forceful op-ed. This awe-inducing confidence has produced hit after hit in her career (seriously “Savage” was on the Billboard Top 100 twice), so we’re sure Good News will be packed with unforgettable, head-bopping tracks.

Though we haven’t been graced with a complete track list, we do know that her singles “Don’t Stop,” featuring Young Thug, “Girls in the Hood,” and Houston anthem “Savage Remix” will be on the album. 

To make this good news even sweeter, Megan shared that the winners of her Don’t Stop Scholarship, which will award two $10,000 scholarships to female students of color pursing a higher education degree, will be announced November 17. And don’t forget, she’s set to perform a brand-new track at the American Music Awards on November 22. Good news, indeed.
